From the Parisian Atelier Petitot came some of the finest, most sleek Modernist lighting designs of the era, and this example, in its extraordinarily elegant simplicity, would be among the very best.
The top, the nickel-plated (brass) "canopy," affixes flush against the ceiling and the overall length is about 19 1/2 inches; it's about 17 and a half inches in diameter. Frosted glass overall, it's decorated with bands of clear glass.
Newly rewired and fitted with (2) French bayonet sockets. Both are installed with a "reducer," a screw-in device which allows the use of American candelabra sockets, which top out at 60 watts each. Or, take these out and use bayonet-mounting bulbs, which are readily available in many wattages and sizes, even for American current 110-120, on the Internet.
All parts of the metal (brass) apparatus have been re-plated in nickel, with a brushed-appearing finish (not mirror-finished).
Outer space was one of the fascinations and preoccupations of the Art Deco-Modernist era, and this lighting fixture speaks well to those enthusiasms. You'll enjoy your own trips around planetary rings whenever you light it up!

These don't have any impact on this part's strength and ability to do its job of holding up the glass elements. A previous owner had a small chip on the top edge of the bottom piece of glass ground out. There's a photograph of that area included, and as you can see in the photo but more particularly in the photo of the entire fixture, it's essentially invisible to the eye (in the main photo the ground-out area is around 2 o'clock). There are several flakes off the bottom of the top piece of glass. These are not visible whatsoever when the fixture is installed, and they've been frosted with an acid solution to match the rest of the glass anyway. There is a third piece of glass, not visible. It's a cylinder about 4-5 inches high, several inches across; it encases the bottom bulb and enhances the diffusion of that light source. You will marvel at how cleverly this light fixture has been designed and manufactured! There are two sockets on board, both positioned in the center so the filament of each bulb is near the top of the flared out part of the 2 major glass elements. This results in maximum light distribution to each of the glass elements. All the glass elements will be double-boxed for the most secure and safe shipping. less
