What a wonderful find! Although my maternal ancestors originated in the area which generated a great deal of American Art Pottery, I had never heard of, nor seen, pieces fabricated by The Ohio Pottery Company. These handsome mustard colored, hard porcelain pots could be used for many purposes -- individual dips, baked desserts, or sauces. Glazed both inside and out to allow easy cleaning. Their coloration and non-fussy aesthetic lends them to blend nicely with MCM, Contemporary, Farmhouse, Loft, Arts & Craft, or Rustic decor.
They were produced as early as 1922; and, as the company was merged with another and renamed The Franunfelter Company just a year later in 1923, it is reasonable to say that these items with the original Ohio Pottery provenance are quite a rarity. and perhaps explains my unfamiliarity with them.
Two have a manufacturer's mark en verso which includes The Ohio Pottery Co. of Zanesville, OH as well as the salesmark, "Petroscan, Leadless Glaze, Will Not Craze" and the model #5. The third piece only has the model number.
Very good antique condition; minor fabrication flaws such as as glaze misses and bubble spots. One has a stable, shallow glaze crack in the bottom (as shown) and there are a few tiny chips on undersides which are not visible when in use.
