This Wasily Kandinsky very rare vintage 1955 Mid Century Modern Mourlot fine art lithograph print custom framed Galerie Maeght Paris exhibition poster " Improvisation XXXI " 1913, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The fine art exhibition poster print is published by the famous Galerie Maeght, Paris. Printed in France in 1955 by Mourlot Imprimerie Paris, in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the " Oeuvres De 1910 A 1920 Periode Dramatique " exhibition. It features an artwork image originally created by Kandinsky in 1913 titled " Improvisation XXXI ".

Wasily Kandinsky ( 1866 - 1944 ) was a Russian born Modern Expressionist painter and art theorist. He is considered to be one of the most important Abstract artists of all time, and the pioneer of The Abstract Art Movement. He was an educator at the famous Bauhaus School in Germany. He is credited with landmark theories relating to his original color compositions and concepts of spiritual life and humanity in his artworks. Art works by Kandinsky are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
Visionary genius Aime Maeght opened his infamous art gallery The Galerie Maeght n 1945 in Paris France. Coinciding with the end of World War Ii and the return of many exiled artists back to France. The greatest international artists of the time exhibited at the gallery including Francis Bacon, Georges Braque, Alexander Calder, Marc Chagall, Wasily Kandinsky, Ellsworth Kelly, Richard Lindner, Henri Matisse, Paul Rebeyrolle, Walasse Ting, among many others.
In addition to being a gallerist and art dealer, Aime and his son Adrien also founded Maeght Editeur which is recognized as one of the most important and influential publishers of lithographs, books, and fine art posters in the world, such as this exquisite exhibition poster print.
The venerable famous printing house of Imprimerie Mourlot Paris was founded in 1852 by The Mourlot family. It is known worldwide for its fine art lithography printing, and one of their most important contributions was to be the art poster. Mourlot became the place where posters were prepared and produced as works of art in their own right.
Beginning the 1930's Fernand Mourlot invited the major artists of the time into the lithography studio to learn the medium of printing together. Encouraging the artists to work directly on the lithography plates to create original prints and posters in limited editions. The results of this artistic collaboration between master artists and Mourlot became internationally known for their originality, beauty, and exquisite craftsmanship.
The rare out of print framed Modernist Paris exhibition poster measures 15 1/4" W X 22 1/4" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed detail matte eggshell finish black metal frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling, and very light minor wear.
