The dining table has been professionally restored. The tabletop had deep scratches and areas where the veneer was detaching, particularly along the outer rim. These issues have been meticulously repaired (see images). All table legs have minor veneer repairs (see images), yet they remain structurally sound and intact. The chairs are in excellent condition, with legs in robust shape. All chairs have new caning (see images). One chair has a naturally bent back, typical of aged wood (see image). A few chairs have subtle repairs near the inlaid design on the back, which are not noticeable (see images). The entire set weighs 265 lbs. less

This English Edwardian Satinwood Dining Ensemble is inspired by the work of George Hepplewhite. The ensemble is made up of an oval table and eight shieldback chairs. The table has a removable leaf, allowing the owner to manipulate the size of the table when needed. The chairs have a shield shape back with ribbon designs, typical of Hepplewhite’s style, with hand-caned seats on a trapezoidal frame. The wood itself is a warm yellowish-gold with close grain. Satinwood can transform to a rich buttery satin-like finish when polished. It is sought after for its use in marquetry, is exceptionally hard, and has a natural luster to the surface. Deemed as the 'wood of kings', this dining set is incredibly unique and rare.
Hepplewhite’s furniture is characterized by the use of contrasting veneers called marquetry, as seen throughout this ensemble. He primarily used mahogany but also satinwood, rosewood, and sycamore. His furniture designs are enriched with decorative elements such as ornate swags, curling ribbons, feathers, and urns. His designs also commonly have shield-shaped backs, using lines that are graceful and delicate in aspect.
This gorgeous table set is versatile in function and exquisitely crafted, making it a wonderful addition to any home.
