Description: A fine Italian carved pine mirror with a carved and gilded gesso surface, dating to the early 19th century. The … more A fine Italian carved pine mirror with a carved and gilded gesso surface, dating to the early 19th century. The design has a charming format, with a deeply carved laurel wreath crest, containing a mirrored rondel. The carving is notable for both the details (wonderfully textured bark of the laurel branches) and the variety of elements: guilloche, pearl beading, outset corners with dimensional rosettes, and bold carved husk swags. Good antique condition with signs of age: craquelure, minor chipping, attractive wear and patination to the gilt gesso, showing red clay bole beneath. Both beveled mirror plates are later.
