Herve Van Der Straeten's jewellery has always been exciting and bold, like his furniture and wonderful mirrors. He studied painting at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris where he began creating jewellery. He has designed collections for many couturiers, Thierry Mugler, Karl Lagerfeld, Lacroix , Yves Saint Laurent and Lanvin to name a few. Every piece is cut out from brass sheeting by hand, producing a primitive, rough outline. The surface is then ‘hammered’ or hand finished, and gilded. His style of working can be compared to Matisse and his paper cut outs, working with metal instead of paper. He very sadly has ceased jewellery manufacture, having moved more into furnishings and design. He is the designer of the iconic ‘J’Adore’ by Dior perfume bottle. See less
