A neoclassical … more A contemporary oil painting diptych on board by Detroit artist Thomas Humes. Signed and dated 1995 on verso. A neoclassical portrait of a monk-like figure that has a mediative quality. The figure is cut in half by the diptych. His arm is extended out and the figure is holding a basket with a single egg. Humes is inspired by Flemish and Renaissance paintings which are embedded with symbolism. The artist often used his own portrait for the figurative series adding a layer of inner reflection and psychological drama. Humes's artworks can be found in several private and public collections.
