Signed lower left, 'M. Legendre' for Maurice Louis Legendre (French, born 1928) and painted circa 1960.
A boldly painted, cabinet-sized oil showing the cafes of Montmartre's Place du Tertre with numerous fashionably dressed pedestrians and a view beyond to the white marble Basilica of Sacré-Cœur.
Maurice Legendre was a noted French impressionist and sculptor, especially known for his Parisian and London landmark scenes. He was a pupil of Robert Couturier and Marcel Grimond. In 1954, Legendre won the Blumenthal prize and, in 1965, was awarded the Brantôme prize for sculpture.
