Dating roughly from the 1960-1970s. Signed in reverse order: “Kelvin Phillip. LaVerne”, which makes this piece exceptionally rare and unusual as Kelvin’s name appears before his father’s and Philip’s name is intentionally misspelled with two Ls. After consultation with an expert on their work, it has been confirmed that this was occasionally done as an “inside” joke between father and son.

The LaVernes are well known and respected for creating exquisite designs in copper, pewter, and bronze during the mid-20th century and most of their pieces were limited to editions of 12, but all having slight variations that make each a one-of-a-kind work of art. Experts believe pieces by the LaVerne duo have barely scratched the surface in terms of their potential value over time. Very few of their highly collectible pieces are on the market today.
