This Really is an Outstanding Example of a Authentic Antique American Primitive Stoneware Storage Jar - Crock. Large Size - It is Embossed with a Number 3 Confirming its Three Gallon Liquid Storage Capacity. It is Also Embossed - Signed by the Well Documented Maker WHITES UTICA NEW YORK. Records Indicate that Noah White - Original Founder Started Producing Stoneware items in Approx 1834. Over the Following Years the Company was Managed by a Number of Whites Family Members and Produced Under Name Variations for Many Years Reaching in to the Very Early 20th Century before Closing. This Particular "WHITES UTICA" Mark was Used Between the Years of Approx 1850s to 1870s. It is has a Salt Glazed Exterior and it is Rendered in Classic American Stoneware Form - Shape with the Added Feature of Applied Handles - "Ears". The Front of the Jar has a Very Large & Elaborate Hand Decorated Cobalt - Navy Blue Stylized Flower Decoration. The Interior is Done in a Dark Coffee Brown Color. Back in the Day These Types of Stoneware Items were a Necessity in Most of Americas Farms and Household's and They were Made - Intended For Everyday Utilitarian Use. These Types of American Stoneware Items we Completely Hand Made out of Indigenous Clay on a Potters Wheel from Start to Finish and Therefore No 2 are Absolutely Identical. This Jar Style was Commonly Used to Store and Preserve Many Types of Liquids and Foods. It is in Excellent Original Condition and it Displays Beautifully. It has No Damage and No Repairs. Stoneware Pieces Like This were Fired in Very Large Kilns with Many Other Pieces at the Same Time and Kiln Flaws are Quite Common however This One Has to Few to Mention.
