An interesting First Edition offset lithograph print after oil painting "The Order of the High C" (1921) by Paul Klee. Comes from a rare First Edition folio of the artist published by Albert Skira in Geneva, Switzerland in the 1940s. Printed on one side. Numbered at the lower right corner: 5. Excellent condition - minor edge wear, never framed.
Painted at Weimar in 1921, this canvas was produced along with many others inspired by the stage. Klee was a fervent theater-goer, never happier than when he could immerse himself in the make-believe of the stage and enjoy the delightful confusion of the real and the unreal. One of his favorite hobbies in his own home was a small marionnette show, which inspired many of the symbolic figures he painted--figures now dream-laden, now ironic, limned with all the grace of musical notation.
