“Massiccio & Marvelous!!!” (“Massive & Marvelous!!!”) Simply put… Yes, this piece is JUST that and is comprised of a frame masterfully composed of both a phenomenal walnut toned wood toned plastic or wood composite, brass, and wood. The sixties was a strong decade bringing unforgotten moments in time such as the Kennedy Assasination, Martin Luther King delivers his “I Have a Dream” speech, Man Lands on the Moon, BEATLEMANIA… Oh ya, AND “Plastic” was the absolute IN thing to use on home furnishings!! That’s right! Especially plastic as high quality and durable as is composed in this incredible Italian piece. There’s a fun story that accompanies this piece as we were able to meet the previous owners that purchased this beauty (along with other pieces) while stationed in the military in ITALY in the 60’s! When they moved back to the United States, this beauty came back too. And not to brag BUT… my father-in-law (who has been in the vintage furniture, design, and building custom furnishings business for well more than half of his life… and that folks, is a LOOOOONG time!!) commented that this is probably one of the “highest quality pieces” we have EVER had to offer! That’s a big deal people!! You wouldn’t want to hear some of the OTHER things he says!! LOL!!!! The front of the lower cabinet bears four decorative gothic crosses on each door front with inner door astragals and skeleton keys with a heart detail, barley twist legs on the sides, and round decorative feet. The inner astragals bear a feature where the doors must open & close simultaneously WHILE also using the skeleton key. That feature is mimicked with both the bottom hutch AND the top display! The top hutch bears four gothic arch shaped glass insets with white painted details in the door fronts, brass hinges, skeleton keys, glass shelves with wood trimmed edge details, and a piedmont scroll in the top center. It is a separate piece, so you have an option to use the scroll if you want or not. The top hutch is recessed a bit back on the base and will look incredible in almost any room you choose to use it. If you don’t love it as one extra-large piece it does come apart so if you are in a “home remodel” situation you may also like the look of using it in two parts with the top hung on the wall for display, and the lower unit as a sideboard or buffet. It is a beautifully crafted, highly functional piece of furniture and it is going to be incredible in your family room or living room, in your dining area, or in the study, home office, or den. Possibilities are as endless as your imagination. It has adequate storage, it is versatile, useful, and it bears a quintessential Italian Gothic Revival style you are sure to love for years to come. So, just say “SI!” And make it YOURS!!!!
