- This early Chinese Straits wedding chest of drawers (Straits Chinese (Baba Nyonya people, Straits Settlement, mid 19th c.) in red … more This early Chinese Straits wedding chest of drawers (Straits Chinese (Baba Nyonya people, Straits Settlement, mid 19th c.) in red and black lacquer with typical carved gilt figural overlays to the drawers, overhanging molded top, two over one drawer with inset molded frame, carved and shaped skirt with squat legs, and iron bail lift handles on sides, 20 1/2" x 34 1/2" x 17 3/4". Locks have 2 new keys custom fabricated to pull open the drawers, the locks themselves do not function. Fascinating piece of history with both wood and hand wrought iron nails. Original paperwork shows this was acquired in and transported from London in the 1980s. less
