It features a monograph survey collection of the artworks of the artist Wayne Thiebaud, with a compelling accompanied essay by Mark Rosenthal.
Wayne Thiebaud ( 1920 - 2021 ) is an American painter widely known for his luscious handling of paint, and brilliant colorful palette of works depicting commonplace objects that combined sensuousness, nostalgia and a hint of melancholy. Thiebaud is associated with The Pop Art Movement because of his interest in objects of mass culture. Although his early works, executed during the 1950's and 1960's slightly predate the works of classic Pop artists. He uses heavy pigment and exaggerated colors to depict his subjects, and the well defined shadows characteristic of advertisements are almost always included in his work. Art works by Thiebaud are included in the collections of many the most prestigious museums.
Founded in 1960 by visionary connoisseur art dealer Allan Stone, The gallery now known as Allan Stone Projects as been admired for over half a century. Renowned for his early advocacy of preeminent 20th Century pivotal artists. He passionately championed artists including Joseph Cornell, Willem De Kooning, Arshile Gorky, Eva Hesse, Franz Kline, and many others.
His most significant partnership was with Wayne Thiebaud, who he represented for over four decades. Their relationship is renowned as one of the most influential partnerships in American Postwar Art, and has left a legacy that many of today'd artists and dealers struggle to emulate.
Since his first exhibition at The Allan Stone Gallery in 1962, Thiebaud has become one of the most prominent artists of our time. As his primary dealer, friend and collector, Stone celebrated Thiebaud's range of style in this embracing exhibit. All artworks in the exhibition and this volume are selected from The Allan Stone Collection, some of which had never been exhibited before.
