For your consideration... 19thC ,c.1840. Framed hand-colored lithograph: Daughters of Temperance.
An early women's rights organization supporting abstention from the use of alcohol.
The women of the Martha Washington Salem Union No. 6 took a pledge not to use, buy, or sell alcoholic beverages.
They also pledged to advocate temperance in their community.
They governed themselves through regular elections of officers, and they pooled their resources to provide death benefits for their members.
