The Burdick conference table is more than just furniture—named one of the best of 1981 in Industrial Design by TIME magazine, it’s a statement of design innovation and elegance. Born from the mind of designer Bruce Burdick in the 1980s, this table embodies a perfect blend of form and function. The table’s sleek, modular design features a striking aluminum beam structure that supports three pristine glass surfaces, creating an illusion of weightlessness.
The visible mechanics beneath the surface invite admiration for its engineering brilliance, while the table’s adaptability reflects the forward-thinking nature of its creator. Whether used for collaborative meetings or as a centerpiece in a modern office, the Burdick tells a story of timeless sophistication and the power of thoughtful design. This table was bought in 2005 and used as my studio conference table. It has most recently been stored and disassembled. It shows signs of use, but its signature design still shines!
This iconic postmodern design routes cables along the beam and base assembly. Tops attach to the beams, which are precision-tooled cast aluminum and adjustable via set screws. Steel leg columns are painted black; their aluminum bases feature adjustable 1/4-inch glides. Plate-glass tabletops are 5/8-inch thick with polished edges.
This Herman Miller original three-piece configuration features a rectangular main surface flanked by two half-round ends: The rectangular glass panel measures 60" x 36", and the half-round panels measure 23.5" W x 36" D. All glass panels are 5/8" thick, with radiused corners and polished edges.
