Nephrite inserts are held tight by banks stylized clouds or billowing smoke. The carapaces of the turtles show sea weed trailing over them. In Chinese lore the heron standing on the turtle’s back is a symbol of longevity, friendship and the harmony of heaven and earth.

These candelabra are in good original condition. One coral stone is missing from one turtle and there appear losses at the necks of the herons toward the front. The remainder of the wear is consistent with age and use.
