All Friedman Brothers products are constructed of the finest kiln dried woods. Artisans begin the first of the intricate and unique steps by precision cutting the pieces using carefully designed patterns. All wood joints are fitted carefully by hand to provide permanent bonded strength and to prevent warping. The product is then milled to its final shape.
The next step is the application of the exquisite ornaments. The ornaments are handmade from a process dating back over 200 years and a very special gesso composition developed in the 18th century to achieve intricate ornamentation. Every ornament is bonded, tooled and handcrafted requiring the expertise of a skilled craftsman.
Friedman Brothers is not only known for the quality of the ornamentation but is considered a Master in the art of finishing. All our gilding is leafed by hand. Wood finishes are painstakingly stained and rubbed to give the precise color and patina required by our customers.
We can also finish our products in the ornamental Chinoiserie style. We employ highly-skilled artists that are trained in the art of bas-relief hand-painted designs. All detailing, coloring and shading is done by hand to create a true one-of-a-kind piece of art.
In summary, wood frames, gesso ornamentation, and water gilded hand burnished gold leaf are the signature of authentic museum quality reproductions crafted by Friedman Brothers.
