A lovely and colorful set of ca. 1820 English Ironstone made by Hicks and Meigh, (Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent) in this sought after pattern centered on a tree branch surrounded with bold flowers and birds. First introduced in 1813, the pattern was popular and continued to be produced until ca. 1840. The execution of the decoration is a combination of transfer and vivid hand painting in pink, purples, yellows, greens and orange, with gilt details also added by hand. All with an underglaze blue mark "Stone China,” a mark used by Hicks, Meigh and Johnson until ca. 1830, to the backs. One serving dish a s a closely related pattern, also made by Hicks and Meigh.
