The caning has been replaced at some point in all 4 chairs (one very recently so and it is lighter in color), the caning is taut and all 4 chairs hold weight with no issues. The frames are structurally sound. There is wear throughout to the painted finish from age and use. One chair retains the parcel gilt details while the other 3 have lost their gilt detailing and are completely black in color aside from caning. One of the all black chairs is missing the center round decorative piece that is in the middle of the C-scroll splats on the front and 3 of the chairs are missing this detail on the backside of the C-scroll splats (one being the chair that retains the gilt finish). I am happy to answer any questions you may have prior to purchase or to send more photos if needed. less
