A fine banana scraper from the Azera people in Morobe Province, Markham Valley, Papua New Guinea. The handle of the scraper is carved into the face of a Flying Fox with an angular form. An outstanding old example, the piece exhibits a refined naturalism found only in the most ancient examples. Acquired in the 1950's.
