It appears that the original upholstery has been replaced at least once, according to the holes in the wood underneath. I heartily approve of the most recent choice.

Judging from the style and the age of the fabric underneath, along with the evidence of prior coverings, I'd say the stool/ottoman is at least a hundred years old.
