The fine art lithograph print is printed in France in 1948 by Les Editions Du Chene Paris, as part of a French portfolio of limited edition Fauvism lithograph prints titled " Les Fauves Peintures ". The vintage lithograph print features an artwork image originally created by Braque in 1907 titled " Paysage " ( Landscape ).
Georges Braque ( 1882 - 1963 ) was a major Twentieth Century French painter, collagist, printmaker, and sculptor. His most important contributions to the history of art were his alliance with Fauvism, and the role he played in the development of Cubism. Closely associated with his colleague Pablo Picasso, their respective Cubist works were indistinguishable for many years. Working closely together, thus the invention of The Cubist Style was a joint effort between Braque and Picasso. Artworks by Braque are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
In 1905, Georges Braque, Henri Matisse, Andre Derain, and Maurice De Vlaminck exhibited their highly innovative paintings at the controversial Salon D'Automne. The vivid, unnatural colors led the art critic Louis Vauxcelles to name their works as " Les Fauves ", or " The Wild Beasts ", marking the start of The Fauvist Movement.
The lithograph print plate image measures 8 5/8" W X 7 1/8" H, on page that is 11" W X 14 7/8" H. The print is attached to the page with a method called " tipping " where it is attached by hand on the left side edge. Behind the print plate on the page is the title, date and size of the original artwork.
