David Hockney ( B. 1937 ) is an English painter, draftsman, printmaker, stage designer, and photographer. He is an important contributor to The Pop Art Movement of the 1960's. He is considered one of the most influential British artists of The 20the Century. His artworks have commanded greater popular acclaim than any other Contemporary British artist. The Pop Art Expressionist artworks have been the subject of more than 400 solo exhibitions. Art works by Hockney are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
This beautiful exhibition poster reproduces Hockney's 1974 " Two Vases in The Louvre ", offering a glimpse into the museum's inner Neoclassical courtyard. The artwork revels in texture, from the finely stippled blue and yellow mosaic tiles, to the backlit, electric blue and red window. Light gleams from the edges of the vases, whose shadows wash across the floor - one can imagine the overcast but white-lit day in Paris on which this was drawn. 1974 was Hockney's second year in Paris. This is an outstanding example of Hockney's ability to capture the exquisite nature of color, composition, mood and feeling, making it one of his finest works of art.
