This Milton Avery very rare vintage 1986 lithograph print custom framed Modernist poster " The Red Fisherman " 1950, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The lithograph print poster is published by The Lannan Foundation, printed in The United States in an unnumbered limited edition by Poster Originals, Limited No. 453. It features an artwork image originally created by Avery in 1950 titled " The Red Fisherman ", copyright 1986 Lannan Foundation.
Milton Avery ( 1885 - 1965 ) is a non traditional American Modern painter. While clearly representational, Avery's work is seminal to American Abstract Painting as it focuses on color relations and is not concerned with creating the illusion of depth. Often thought of as The American " Matisse " because of his colorful, imaginative, and poetic bold creative use of drawing and color, that set him apart from other painters of his era. Art works by Avery are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
In 1962 Evelyn and Leo Farland founded their infamous poster gallery and publishing business " Poster Originals Limited ". They created groundbreaking innovation and lasting effects with their pioneering approach to the poster industry from the early 1960's through the late 1980's. They worked with the leading American and European artists, international museums and top galleries collaborating to create some of the most iconic and important art posters of The Mid Century Modern, Pop Art, Abstract Expressionist, and Contemporary Art Movements. This Milton Avery poster print is a beautiful example of Poster Originals finest work.
In 1960 J. Patrick Lannan Sr., entrepreneur and financier, established The Lannan Foundation. A scholar and liberal thinker, he believed strongly in the social importance of charitable programs and the cultural importance of innovative and controversial forms of visual and literary art. The Lannan Foundation is dedicated to cultural freedom, diversity and creativity through projects which support exceptional artists and writers.
The rare out of print framed Modernist poster measures 35 1/8" W X 29" H X 1 1/2" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern matte eggshell finish charcoal gray museum box style wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " like new " clean vintage condition consistent with age, very light signs of handling, and very light minor wear.
