Terence Cuneo was a very prolific painter. His best known works are of the military, trains and industrial settings. That is why this painting is an interesting choice of subject matter. He loved painting and would prop his latest work against the wall in the bathroom, studying it while enjoying the suds and a glass of whiskey.
I would consider this to be a fashion painting. I love the combination of blue and lilac on the lady's gown. The parasol and the eager dog contribute to the feeling of whimsy in this portrayal of a fashionable young woman.
