This elegant, antique "Selette" was crafted in France, circa 1860. Carved of variegated beige marble with orange veins, the tall pedestal sits on a thick square plinth embellished with a bronze mount at the base decorated with repousse acanthus leaf motifs. The circular stem is decorated at the neck with an ornate bronze ring embellished with foliage and acanthus leaf decor in high relief. The surface is dressed with a swivel square removable top. The Napoleon III pedestal is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich finish associated with patinated gilt mounts. Place this timeless, classical column in the corner of a living room to hold a bust or a vase of flowers.
