From "The History of Man", one of 6 Lithographs from my personal collection. The artist is Gaetano Dura, Italian 1805-1878, and the publisher was Raimondo Petraroja who owned a bookstore and publishing company in Naples. The lithograph was made from stone,
a technique used from the early 1800's until steel was used late in the 1800's. Stone lithographs had a fuzzy texture, as can be seen clearly in these pieces. The prints are handcolored. The embossed publisher's stamp can be seen in the last photo.
