This is a Great Looking and Very Rare Authentic Antique American Weathervane. Large Size Measuring Approx. 22 1/2 Inches Long. It is Made Out of Cast Iron and is Rendered in a Classic Late Victorian Reticulated Arrow Style. The Tail is Set with a Etched Ruby to Clear Panel that Depicts a Stylized Version of Hally's Comet.
In 1910 Halley's Comet Fever was Rampant. Countless Millions of People All Around the World Anxiously Awaited the Comet's Return to Planet Earth. Its Popularity Stemmed Every Imaginable Kind of Halley's Comet Novelty Items Including Jewelry, Cut Glassware, Toys, Ephemera of all Sorts, Advertising Trade Cards, Paper Fans, Books, Buttons, Postcards Etc. And in This Case Weathervane's.
It is in Totally Untouched, As Has Survived Over the Years Condition - In Other Words Just Exactly as it Survived over Countless Years of Exposure as Displayed on a Most Likely a Barn Building or House. The Cast Iron Surfaces are Rustically Weathered as is The Ruby Glass Pane. It would Display Wonderfully Mounted a Wall Decor. It has No Damage - No Repairs. The Ruby Glass Panel is a Bit Loose - Moves - Slides Sideways in its Mount a bit but It is Totally Secure - Absolutely Cannot Fall Out.
