A large and spectacular antique Kashmir - Persian copper samovar kettle (Islamic dallah / Indian coffee - tea-pot). Handcrafted in India in the 19th century, having a richly textured, repousse and engraved tinned copper body with Arabesque motif and Chinar leaf and vine design, a hinged lid with finial, shaped brass handle, rising on a pierced floral base, possibly signed by the maker beneath the rim. The interior has a center tube for the insertion of a heated metal slug which would have been placed in a fire to heat, then placed in the tube to keep the coffee warm.
Drinking water stored in a copper vessel is believed to be beneficial for one’s health. Combining functionality with old world aesthetic charm, this Kashmiri copper kettle is sure to add elegance and intrest to the ambience of your dining table or kitchen.
