This is a good pair of Meiji period Japanese Shibayama plaques in beautiful red lacquer oval frames with a scene … more This is a good pair of Meiji period Japanese Shibayama plaques in beautiful red lacquer oval frames with a scene of pigeons and flowers.
They are large: 24” H x 18” W
The plaques date from around 1870 and are in lovely condition with mother of pearl and carved bone. Presented in the original red lacquered oval frames also painted with cherry blossom.
Good condition with only minor wear on the scene, but on the frames some parts of lacquer layer are missing-one bigger piece on one of the frame side ( see photo) and some tiny spots( can be make invisible with some similar color of paint).
Otherwise they are in very good condition compare to their age. less
