19th century primitive trunk, possibly an immigrant's or seaman's chest with "secret" storage compartment. This lovely little piece has a great look -- simple, folksy and primitive -- no bells and whistles, designed as a functional piece for travel. The secret drawer is not very secret but still in tact.
The lock no longer works but it does still have one clasp for holding the top down while carrying. I love the size of this trunk ... small enough to display anywhere but large enough to be used for throws, small blankets or anything else you may want to tuck away.
This dome-topped trunk measures 22" in length, 13" tall and 12" deep. There are some cracks in the wood across the top (as pictured) but overall the piece is still solid and sturdy ... it's worn well for its age. less
