The lid has a fragment of vintage hand woven Chancay textile with a figurative/geometric pattern framed by a hand hammered silver rim and protected by a piece of glass. The Chancay tribe is known to have been present in Peru between 1200-1450, and archaeological sites are known to be approximately 50 miles from present-day Lima. The Chancay are an early sect of the Inca Empire. The textiles can be found in numerous museums exhibiting Pre-Columbian Latin American art, and the techniques of their weavings are similar to early Asian and early African works. These pieces are woven from cotton, Llama, Alpaca, and Vicuna wools.
