Goya Etching Set 5 Disasters of War Framed Wall Art Antique Etching Collection Los desastres de la guerra Gift Spain History Art Collector . Goya's "Disasters of War" etchings span across art, history, and social commentary, making them relevant to a diverse audience with varying interests and objectives, such as art collectors, art historians, scholars, cultural institutions, museums, galleries, educational institutions, historians, students, and cultural organizations. Francisco de Goya y Lucientes (1746-1828) created "The Disasters of War," a series of eighty copper plates, between 1810 and 1820. The series portrayed the invasion of Spain by Napoleonic troops.
"The Disasters of War" was never published during Goya's lifetime. The Real Academia Calcografia Nacional acquired the copper plates and printed its first edition of etchings in 1863 and subsequent editions thereafter. This set of etchings is printed on laid paper, some bearing the Joseph Guarro tower watermark. Based on other examples we have seen, this is consistent with the 1923 edition.
