This Josef Albers Foundation rare offset lithograph print custom framed Mid Century Modernist French poster " Homage to the Square : Plaza Blanca " 1968, is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection.
The Modernist poster print is published by Graphique De France, printed in an unnumbered limited edition in 2003 in France. It features an artwork image originally created by Albers in 1968 titled " Study for - Homage to the Square : Plaza Blanca ", courtesy of The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, Smithsonian Institution, copyright 2003 The Josef and Anni Albers Foundation / Artists Rights Society ( ARS ), New York.
Josef Albers ( 1888 - 1976 ) was a German born artist and educator whose work, both in Europe and The United States formed the basis of Modern Art education programs of The 20th Century. Albers was a student at The Bauhaus in 1920, later being invited by the founder Walter Gropius to become an educator at the school. There his students included established artists Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee.
In the 1930's Albers emigrated to The United States where he would become head of the new art school Black Mountain College, and later in the 1950's he became head of The Department of Design at Yale University. His students in America included Robert Rauschenberg, Cy Twombly, Richard Anuszkiewicz, and Eva Hesse among others.
Accomplished as a designer, photographer, typographer, printmaker, and poet, Albers is best remembered for his work as an Abstract painter and an invaluable contributor as an art theorist of color theory. He is considered to be one of the most influential visual artists of The Twentieth Century. Artworks by Albers are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
The rare out of print offset lithograph print framed Modernist poster measures 28 1/2" W X 28 5/8" H X 1 3/8" D. It is custom framed with UV protective plexiglass in a Contemporary Modern recessed beveled detailed lemon yellow matte eggshell finish wood frame molding, with an attached hanging wire on the reverse back side for easy wall installation.
It is in excellent " like new " condition. The poster print is in excellent " Like new " very clean condition with very light signs of handling.
