Although the carver chose not to visualize the hindquarters, the positioning of the front hooves on rocky terrain gives the impression that the horses are rearing back. The smaller of the two statues (1/8 of an inch shorter and ¼ of an inch narrower) is depicted with the head lifted, while the other head is angled down. Both animals are well-detailed, with long, flowing manes and defined musculature, and are roughly to scale.
