Large and eye catching antique Chinese red and gold/gilt Temple segment deeply hand carved out of a single piece of … Read more Large and eye catching antique Chinese red and gold/gilt Temple segment deeply hand carved out of a single piece of heavy solid wood and mounted on a custom four leg brown wood Buddhist style stand.
Such deep carving gives a three dimensional effect and this would have taken a long time to make. Such large pieces are rarely found now..
This piece would have originated from inside a temple probably near the roof/pillar section and depicts a deity (possibly Kwan Yin / Guanyin) with her servant mounted upon an auspicious foo or fu lion under a deeply carved pine tree.
This is a heavy piece and we have not seen anything of this size, like this for sale in a long time.
If displayed and lit correctly this makes a very very interesting statement piece for the home. Listed by East2West Furniture.
