Antique wooden corbels can add character and charm to any space. These early interior corbels / brackets showcase intricate craftsmanship and timeless appeal and appear to be Renaissance inspired. Back in the late 19th century and earlier, they were used for both structural and decorative purposes. Hand-carved from mahogany, they feature graceful curves, delicate details, and a warm patina that only time can bestow. The wood’s imperfections—such as minor cracks, nicks, and weathering—add authenticity and tell a story of their rich history. The warm, aged wood tone would pair beautifully with many interiors.
These versatile corbels can be used in various ways: I personally visualize them on each side/ beneath a kitchen hood, or either side of a kitchen island, in an antique filled kitchen. Corbels such as these were more commonly used to frame doorways on each side of an entryway for a grand entrance or first impression. They can also be used beneath each side of a fireplace mantel for added interest.
Whether you’re an interior designer or a vintage enthusiast, these antique wooden corbels will infuse your space with character and a sense of history.
