Cartier showroom store fixture, Provenance by Repute,
Saved from the refuse pile of a 1960s renovation NYC Cartier retail showroom.
This exquisite Art Deco Chinese motif display case is a piece of retail history that exudes elegance and sophistication. Dating back to the 1920s, this display case once graced the Cartier NYC showroom, making it a true relic of luxury retailing. Its provenance is by repute, having been rescued from the brink of obscurity during a 1960s renovation of the iconic Cartier retail space in New York City.
Executed with meticulous attention to detail, this vitrine is a textbook example of Art Deco design. It consists of two parts: a precision-engineered blackened bronze square frame with glass sides, top, and a solid glass panel frame at the back, complemented by two sliding glass doors. Inside, you'll find two adjustable glass shelves, each measuring 35 inches wide and 10 inches deep, providing ample display space.
Adding to its allure is the elegantly raised base, which features a stylized pagoda design in ebonized wood, adorned with intricate gilt decorations in a Chinoiserie motif. This juxtaposition of Western Art Deco and Chinese influences creates a stunning visual contrast that is both timeless and captivating.
Owning this Art Deco masterpiece is like owning a piece of Cartier's history, a testament to an era of luxury and craftsmanship that continues to captivate collectors and connoisseurs of fine design.
