The book features many double page illustrations that capture Twombly's dramatic gestural style and lush palette. curator Phillip Larratt-Smith contextualizes the woks in the exhibition in his essay " Psychedelic Antiquity ", considering how Twombly's oeuvre - which incorporates an innovative use of language and broad range of allusion and reference to history, literature, and philosophy - revolves around the great universal themes of love, art, beauty, and death, and yet the singularity of his artistic vision, his unique perspective on the world, renders it original in the highest degree.
