A Finely Woven Beautiful Large Size Antique Persian Kerman Rug, Country of Origin: Persia, Circa Date: 1880 – Some antique rugs seem to have a sublime quality that you cannot explain, but you know it when you see it. This is one of these special antique Persian rugs from Kerman. It was produced in the 1880s at a time when the Persian carpet industry was undergoing a revitalization. These carpets found a highly receptive market in Europe and the Americas. The Persian rug colors are bright and vibrant, yet the design is also delicate and graceful.
Kerman is a province in Persia that has a tradition of weaving fine rugs that goes back to the Golden Age of the Safavid Dynasty. Explorers in the 17th century praised the quality and design of rugs from this area. The antique Persian Kerman rugs became associated with exceptional quality and beautiful designs so much so that the term in Kerman is now used to describe a carpet of superb quality and design.
