Vintage; circa 1960, dated and signed acrylic portrait painting on canvas of a "Mad Men," style, businessman posing with his hands clasped around his knee, with a Tuscan colored backdrop. The white shirt with white tie, denotes a special occasion, as per period, one usually saw wedding attire to dictate as such, and/or European influence predominantly in Italians. The adept skills given to this piece reflects best when looking to the close up of the face, the layerings, of colors, offset to the backdrop, light and shadow interplay is spot-on, including the bottlenose spectacles refracted details. The painting mostly is achieved in a dry brush manner, with elements of a wet brush process along the lines of and within the face, hand, portions of the tie, the pink hanging blanket, etc. Dry bush is a manner of painting, whereupon no water is utilized in the production of a painting, by "only," using paints which have been tamped onto a dry paper towel or surface to take away much of the paint, but also leaving some paint onto the brush in order to transfer in a manner of brushing across a canvas, thus creating textural nuances, noticeable in the dragged surface areas. also in areas which are muted, not as crisp or precise linear qualities given to other processes'. Consider it a more modern version of the Expressionist Movement to figural forms vs. a landscape tradition and period which took hold, became identifiable movement, of which Monet's famous "Water Lilly," paintings amongst the many artist who became enamored with this process.
