He began his artistic career illustrating books, magazines and posters. He illustrated well over 120 books during his lifetime.
He also began doing portraits of society and royal figures. Among his famous royal paintings are ones of both Queen Elizabeth as a child and Margaret Rose, her sister.

I love this picture. The colors are wonderful. The blue shorts on Alexander and the blue ball link the sky behind him into a lovely harmony of shades. It is likely somewhere on The Estate of the prominent and wealthy Bullen family.
