Dorothea Sharp was a British painter born in 1874. She was best know for her landscapes and naturalistic studies of children at play. She spent time in Paris where she encountered the art of the Impressionists. This experience was to profoundly affect her painting, resulting in a highly Impressionistic and spontaneous style.
This painting is indeed Impressionistic and it features children enjoying the beach. I find the girl in the white dress to appear a bit pensive, deep in her private thoughts. The muted colors gives one the sense of a hot, hazy day.
This painting would be appropriate for a child's room. I would also love it in my bedroom or the bathroom.
