About this Item: This mid century modern glass barware set features a silver band design, includes two cocktail pitchers with ice lips and six roly poly glasses. This wonderful set's design is attributed to the Dorothy Thorpe Company, post the sale of her interest in 1953. No brand marks.
Description: Large cocktail pitcher with ribbed handle - 80 oz. (8H x 8.5W x 7.5D inches), Martini cocktail pitcher - 24 oz. (8H x 3.25W x 3D inches), 6 cocktail glasses - 4 oz. (2.5H x 3D inches).
Condition notes: Near fine condition; .25 inch vertical scratch on larger cocktail pitcher ice lip, no chips or cracks, to be expected wear from age and use, otherwise nothing else to note, see images. A gift quality set.
Note: The silver band “Mad Men” barware that we so often see labeled as “Dorothy Thorpe” (DT) is most likely the work of the company that purchased and took over the Dorothy Thorpe Company name after 1953. The work that followed DT was considered largely experimental; e.g. latter variance in band width and number versus the earlier standard width, a latter ribbed handle versus the earlier smooth cylindrical one. These glasses are a must-have for the true MCM enthusiast. less
