A hand-painted faience pottery bowl from Portugal. The colors are characteristically faded shades of blue, green, brown, pink and yellow with faded black outlines and borders.
The inside of the bowl features an image of three towers surrounded by foliage. The inner rim is decorated with pink and black lines above a scalloped pattern in black and blue. The outside of the bowl features colorful floral and geometric patterns, as well as images of frolicking animals. Manufacturers mark on the base suggests and artist with the initials A.R.
Due to the size and shallowness of this piece it would make a lovely decorative piece for a coffee table, or a serving bowl for (e.g.) salad. Hand wash.
There are two small imperfections to the glaze in the bowl of the piece and two small chips to the glaze on the rim. The largest of these imperfections is 4mm x 3mm. Crazing consistent with age on the inside. No cracks.
