This " Joan Miro : A Retrospective " rare vintage 1987 first edition Modernist lithograph print hardcover exhibition art book is a very special and unique book to add to your library collection.
The hardcover art book with black linen covered boards, copper tone foil embossed spine titles, and dust jacket is published by The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, New York in collaboration with Yale University Press, New Haven, London. 3000 hardcover copies of this book, designed by Malcom Grear Designs and typeset by Schooley Graphics, have been printed by Eastern Press in April 1987 on the occasion of the exhibition " Joan Miro : A Retrospective ", at The Guggenheim Museum, New York.
Joan Miro ( 1893 - 1983 ) The Spanish born painter, sculptor, and ceramicist of Jewish descent is considered to be one of the most important Abstract artists of all time. Earning international acclaim, his work has been interpreted as Surrealism, and breaking through boundaries of traditional concepts of the composition of an aesthetic image. He had a significant influence on the late 20th Century Abstract Expressionist artists. The artworks of Miro are included in the collections of many of the world's most prestigious museums.
This special volume emphasizes Miro's lifelong explorations of innovative media and methods, as well as his interests in the relationship of Primitivism to Modernism and of Surrealism to Abstraction. Artworks representing all stages of Miro's long career are reproduced and discussed.
The beautifully and lavishly illustrated book contains texts by four art historian scholars and a memoir by Miro. It reproduces 150 paintings, objects, collages, ceramics, and works on paper by Miro, including data on each of these works of art. In effect an atlas of Miro's artistic adventure, tracing his itinerary from the early period of stylized Hyper-Realism, through Cubism and Surrealism, into his own magical domain of fantasy.
The rare out of print 1st edition Modernist hardcover exhibition art book measures 9 3/4" W X 11 1/4" H X 1" D, with 270 pages.
