This Burmese 19th century sign was hand-carved in Burma (nowadays called Myanmar) for a puppet show. This tall panel is entirely carved in low-relief and enhanced by red and black painted accents. The sign depicts two traditional Burmese puppets carved with many exquisite details such as their clothes and jewelries. In the upper triangular section, a house is carved, perhaps the backstage. Foliages complete these adornments. Thanks to its traditional and impressive aspect, this 19th century Indonesian Burmese hand-carved puppet show sign would be an unusual decorative item in most rooms, perhaps in a den where its combination of elegance and exoticism would add an original touch.
