Born in Burma during the 19th … more A Burmese black lacquered temple offering bowl from the 19th century, with decorative accents. Born in Burma during the 19th century, this temple offering bowl is made of bamboo covered with black lacquer on the outside, red on the inside. Presenting a pagoda-shaped silhouette, the bowl is adorned with delicate concentric motifs, alternating with stars, flowers, swags and discreet elephants each surrounded by a polygonal frame. The bowl is topped with a carved finial, whose slender silhouette complements the ensemble beautifully. Such offering bowls were traditionally used by monks to gather food to take back to their monastery as offering.
