This Francis Bacon rare vintage 1988 lithograph print exhibition poster " Vincent Van Gogh Arles 1888 - 1988 " is an incredibly special and unique piece to add to your collection. Published by the Fondation Vincent Van Gogh Arles France, printed in 1988 in an unnumbered limited edition on the occasion of the centennial exhibition of the artworks created in Arles France in 1888 by Van Gogh. It features an artwork originally created by Bacon in 1985, courtesy of Marlborough Fine Art London.
Francis Bacon ( 1909 - 1992 ) was an Irish born British figurative painter known for his emotionally charged raw imagery, fixation on personal motifs, and heavy experimentation. He is one of the most unique, engaging figurative painters to emerge during the post war period. Inspired by both the old masters and Surrealism, the self taught artist's work is remarkably individual and personalized.
In 1963, a retrospective exhibition at The Guggenheim Museum New York brought international prestige, which continued until his death in 1992 in Madrid Spain. Artworks by Bacon are held in the collections of many of the most prestigious museums worldwide including The Museum of Modern Art New York, The Tate Gallery London, The Art Institute of Chicago, The Hugh Lane Dublin, and the Albertina Vienna, among many others.
Vincent Van Gogh ( 1853 - 1890 ) the Post Impressionist painter who is among the most famous and influential figures in the history of Western Art. Van Gogh lived in Arles in the south of France for more than a year in 1888, experiencing great productivity there before suffering from a mental breakdown. In this period he created numerous paintings and drawings in and around Arles, developing an expressive, individual painting style characterized by bold colors and dynamic brushstrokes.
